Shaun Rieley

Shaun Rieley is Program Officer for Trustee & Legislative Affairs with the
American Council of Trustees and Alumni where he manages trustee
communications and outreach, coalitions relations, and government relations at
both the state and federal level. Before joining ACTA, he spent several years in
veteran policy as a Policy Analyst and Special Projects Manager for Concerned
Veterans for America, and prior to that as the Assistant Director of the National
Legislative Division of The American Legion’s National Headquarters in Washington, DC.

He served as an infantryman in the Maryland Army National Guard’s 175th Infantry Regiment and 158th
Cavalry Regiment for nine years, attaining the rank of Sergeant. His military service included a tour in Iraq as
part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and a tour in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Delaware, and a Master of Arts from
St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD where he studied Philosophy, Political Theory, and Literature. He also
holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Wilmington University, a Master of Arts in Political Theory from
the Catholic University of America, and an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Management from
Georgetown University. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Political Theory and American Government at
the Catholic University of America.

A native of Delaware, he currently resides in Maryland with his wife Leigh and daughter Amelia.
